Melbourne is a world-renowned cultural, artistic, financial and communications hub which has been consistently voted the world’s ‘most liveable city’.

Melbourne is a global knowledge centre which attracts the world’s best academics and researchers. In 2017, an international ranking named Melbourne as Australia’s best student city and the fifth best in the world. Key features, such as Melbourne’s high standard and quality of living, vibrant multicultural society and social inclusion, attracted 175,000 international students in 2016.

Melbourne is one of the world’s most multicultural cities. A quarter of Melbournians were born overseas originating from 140 different nations. This cultural diversity provides many benefits to the city, including a wide range of cuisines and a multitude of cultural celebrations throughout the year.

If you love sports, Melbourne is the city for you. With so many international standard sporting venues in such easy reach of the city, there’s always a sporting event to attend. And don’t be surprised if you bump into Roger Federer or Venus Williams during the Australian Open, they have been known to walk down Bourke Street Mall.

Australia is known for the outdoor lifestyle, and Melbourne doesn’t disappoint. With so many beautiful beaches a short distance away, maybe you could learn to surf. Or perhaps head to the Victorian mountain regions in winter and learn to ski or snowboard.

Location of the Lyons College Campus

Our campus is situated at the heart of Melbourne city.

The Campus is close to exciting shopping arcades and markets such as the famous Queen Victoria Market. Within a short distance are many historical landmarks from centuries ago such as St. Pauls Cathedral, Her Majesty’s Theatre, Princess Theatre, the State Library of Victoria and Government House, as well as modern architecture such as the world-famous Federation Square, the Melbourne Arts Centre and the National Gallery of Victoria.

Lyon’s college has public transport literally at the front door, with free city trams only metres from the entrance. Flinders Street Station is a short 2 minute walk from the campus, and is the major train station which connects all of Melbourne’s suburban network.

Within walking distance are hundreds of restaurants and coffee shops offering foods from many different cultures.
