Associate Professor Bruce McDonald

Bruce has had a distinguished long-term career with Swinburne University of Technology. For around 30 years he was an academic in the Department of Accounting where he became Department Head and was awarded his Associate Professorship. During that time he had sabbaticals at Arthur Andersen and CRA (now Rio Tinto). He served on the Victorian Council of the Australian Society of Accountants (now CPA) and was President of the Accounting Association of Australia and New Zealand.
He is now Senior Philanthropy Advisor in Swinburne`s University Advancement Office, responsible for major gift fundraising and establishing and maintaining relationships with key alumni. Recently, the Vice- Chancellor recognised his distinguished service to Swinburne with a “Lifetime Achievement Award”
His passion for education at all levels was also exhibited by his 13 year tenure on the Balwyn High School Council holding the position of Treasurer.

Dr John Miller AO

PhD (Monash University), Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA)

John has had considerable leadership experience in fields of education, accounting and business. He was Dean, David Syme Business School – now part of Monash Business School and Dean, Swinburne Graduate School of Management. In Accounting he was a senior partner of Hungerfords, now Pitcher Partners and Managing Partner of Pannell Kerr Forster. He is a former President of CPA Australia and of CAPA – the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants.

He was awarded the AO for services to education and the community and the Australian Centenary Medal for services to Accounting, Education, and the Public Sector. He is an honorary life member of CPA Australia, ICMA, the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and the John Button Foundation of which he is founder. His Monash PhD concerned “The Professionalization of Accountants in Australia – Education and Training Perspectives”. John also has degrees in Commerce, Education, and, Arts.

Dr. Yongqiang Li


PhD(Corporate Governance), MSPPM(Public Policy), LLB, BSc(Physics)

Dr Yongqiang Li is an internationally recognised educational leader, academic researcher and Australian Lawyer. His area of expertise is in Law and Governance. He has earned a PhD in Corporate Governance, amongst eight other degrees and certificates in law, business management and finance disciplines. He has more than 7 years of experience as a member of Corporate Boards and academic boards in the higher education sector. He has more than ten years of work experience under various teaching, research and leadership capacities in the Asian Pacific Region. He has provided consulting services on international law matters to more than twenty Australian listed companies. He is an active contributor to research and scholarships. He has published three books and more than thirty journal articles and conference papers in the areas of law, governance and management. He is Editor of the Journal of Governance and Law and has supervised five PhD graduates. He has Chaired, organised and delivered keynote speeches at several international conferences. Dr Li’s teaching philosophy is that students are the centre of the learning. He devoted himself to the empowerment of students’ success through international education and life-long learning.
